Well, if I had Only Known!

Well here is Matthew's reasoning for not using the potty. Tonight I read him a potty book and it ended by asking the reader if he/she wanted to be like Michael, the boy in the story. So, I asked Matthew if he wanted to be like the boy. He replied, "No, I can't." I said, "But big boys use the potty. Don't you want to be a big boy?" He continued, "I can't use the potty because I am going to be a fish and fish don't have bodies. . . only tails." And there you have it . . . our reasoning for not being potty trained. There isn't any need because, according to Matthew, "fish don't pee."
I think I have my work cut out for me!

Happy Birthday Natalie!

My sweet princess turned five on August 28th. We celebrated with an after school trip to Disneyland. We knew we could stay late because she didn't school the following day. I did, but I didn't need much energy for sitting in staff development all day. We arrived at about 5:00 and our first stop, California Adventure, was an unusual request. Typically, Natalie prefers Disneyland over California Adventure and occasionally gets upset (it's caused tantrums in the past) when we don't go to the real Disneyland first. You could attribute her change to the fact that she is getting older, but mostly it was because her kindergarten teacher would be working the Pixar parade. With fifteen minutes to spare we found a great spot to watch the parade, which was very cute. Matthew got a kick out of seeing the life size Lightening McQueen. We oohed and aahed over the characters, stunts, and squirts of water as we waved to the happy Disney characters and performers. Finally, as the parade was ending we spotted Nat's teacher. She actually stopped to take a picture with a beaming Natalie.

After that we headed right over to Disneyland and were able to go on several rides. But not without stopping at the City Hall for a birthday button! We had a couple of firsts too. This was the first time we climbed the treehouse and Natalie had her first ride on Splash Mountain. We've been watching the darn ride on youtube for months now and Natalie was now tall enough and old enough to ride it. Poor little Buddy wasn't, though. And seeing that it was one of his favorite youtube videos, he was disappointed. While Ryan took Natalie on Splash Mountain, I took him on the Winnie the Pooh ride, with the only saving grace being that he didn't know what he was missing. I also allowed him a very large and expensive Disney lollipop.

We ended our night with a trip to adventure land to buy non Disney snakes. I don't know why they wanted snakes. Matthew is all boy and loves creepy crawlies and Natalie just wanted something on her birthday. Matthew used his Disney dollars to treat himself and sister to the long and coily snakes. Believe it or not, the non Disney snakes were not very expensive.
